MATCH REVIEW: BURNLEY VS LIVERPOOL

A day to forget for the red men as they travelled to Turf Moor on the second weekend of the new premier league season and suffered a 2-0 defeat.

Its hard to pick out the worst moment of the match, was it my stream constantly going off? Coutinho's 50 thirty-yard shots, that went wide? Sturbridge"s 0 shots on target in over an hour of football? Just a general all round disappointing performance after coming off such a good win on the opening match. To score 4 past Arsenal at the emirates and not beat Burnley really is such a Liverpool thing to do isn't it?!

Some may say I'm over-reacting and its only the second game of the season... but really if you're a club aiming for top 4 you can't be losing games like this. People can talk all day about the stats and our possession and attempts however at the end of the day the only stat that matters is the scoreline.

To me it just seemed like every time we got near their box we just didn't know what to do, and as a result we had Henderson passing sideways every time he got the ball or Coutinho taking a shot on. Sturridge had an absolutely terrible game, he kept on coming deep to pick the ball up when we needed him running in behind, and when he did get behind their defence he just seemed so slow. Towards the end it just seemed a lazy performance from him, disappointing.

In the middle of the park it wasn't much better, Henderson isn't a defensive Midfielder... Why Klopp opts to play him there I have no clue. Before the transfer window it was clear we needed a ball playing DM, we still need a ball playing DM. Of course Dahoud was the perfect fit, I really wish Klopp just paid what Gladbach were asking for.

This brings me on to my next point about transfers, I could talk all day about this but i'll try and sum up my thoughts in brief. Firstly it seems to me like Klopp has near enough 100% control over transfers. FSG have backed him and given him lots of funds to work with and us not signing certain players really comes down to his personal opinion of them (and their price). This whole left-back saga is really getting frustrating now, not one Liverpool fan wants the transfer window to end with Moreno and Milner as our left-backs. It's starting to seem like it's stubbornness from Klopp. We obviously need a left-back, any decent left-back is available at the right price, Klopp's been given all the money he wants... but still no left-back. I'm currently between that awkward phase of "trust in Klopp" and "What on earth is Klopp doing?"

Okay back to the match...

Defensively we were very very sloppy. Ever since the Barcelona game I have to say Clyne hasn't been as up to scratch. I hope it is just a glitch in performance because yesterday his sloppy pass, coupled with Klavan's and Lovren's poor attempt at defending, cost us a goal in the opening few minutes of the game.

Thoughts on Mignolet? Well I reckon he could've made a bit more of an attempt at their second goal, I mean it practically rolled into the back of the net... after that second goal an interesting stat came out that the last 5 shots on Mignolet's goal all went in. Make of that what you will.

Overall I didn't see much improvement yesterday from the Liverpool of last season who couldn't break down the "lesser" teams, hugely disappointing (seems to be a recurring theme here) considering they've had a whole week to prepare for this game and couldn't score, and this is meant to be "Klopp's team" now. Consistency is the only thing stopping us from Top 4, yes it is only the second game of the season but if Jurgen can crack it and get us seeing of the little teams as we should it will get a lot better for us, for me we still need to sign at least a Left-back to achieve this but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Yesterday Klopp got it wrong, but here's to the next game against Burton...

Note: Sorry this is a slightly shorter post than last week, this review is just really depressing to write.
